Day 11 - Compete

Today is Day 11, 79 days to tryouts in the quest for basketball improvement. It will come fast.

Day 11 – Compete
I once heard Denver Nuggets head coach George Karl say, “competition has been replaced by cool.”
Man did he have a point!
Regardless of where you are playing, you need to compete.

If you are working out, you need to compete. If you are in a game, you need to compete. Competition brings out the best in basketball players.

How do you learn to compete?
Are they born with it? Can you learn it? Can the eye of the Tiger be learned?
As a basketball player, you need to have a desire to succeed.  To battle the opposition. To take things on.
You can’t back down when you have an uphill battle. You can’t back down from a tough opponent.
Those who can’t compete, complain.  Don’t be a complainer. Be a tough competitor. Have the reputation of someone who brings it every game, every practice. Bounce back from setbacks.
Get stronger, faster, quicker and more agile. Play as much as you can. Practice as often as possible.  Refuse to lose. As a player, you need the killer instinct. You need to play hard at all times. You need to want to compete!
“I think there are three things that are really important in basketball.  The first one is quickness. The second thing is concentration. The third is competitiveness – you must love to compete.”
